When freedom above the clouds becomes a burden
It should actually be the anticipation of your vacation or concentration on your business meeting. But instead of serenity, all you feel is this tightness in your chest. Your heart races, your hands get clammy and even the thought of the airport triggers stress. Fear of flying is not a sign of weakness - it's an overreaction of your nervous system.
At Fly-TCM, I don't see fear of flying as a "simple" psychological problem, but as an imbalance in your inner energy. I help your body to replace the "danger" signal with the "safety" signal. So that you not only arrive, but can enjoy the journey.
What is TCM for fear of flying? (Regulation instead of anesthesia)
In conventional medicine, sedatives are often used for fear of flying, which dampen consciousness. I take a different approach: I regulate your autonomic nervous system. From a TCM perspective, fear of flying is often a disorder of the "Shen" (your mind) or a disharmony between the heart and gallbladder (courage aspect).
Instead of suppressing fear, I strengthen your center and calm your heart system. My goal is to create natural resilience for you. Your body learns to stay relaxed in the cabin because your nervous system doesn't go into panic mode (sympathetic nervous system) in the first place.
Why TCM is so effective when flying
The nervous system reacts to stimuli. If you have a fear of flying, your system is programmed to "permanent alarm". I use gentle impulses to extinguish this alarm.
- The vagus nerve: I use Japanese acupuncture to specifically address the resting nerve. It is your body's brake.
- Release Qi congestion: Fear blocks the flow. I release these energetic blockages before they lead to physical panic.
- Build up substance: Especially for frequent flyers and crews, I believe it is important to protect your inner reserves (yin) so that stress has less of a target.
The methods: How I treat your fear of flying
In my practice in Winterthur, I combine proven techniques that I tailor to your individual type of anxiety:
1. Japanese acupuncture (vagus training)
As you have already read in my main method, I work very thinly and painlessly. I use stimuli that switch your brain directly into relaxation mode. This "grounds" you before you even leave the floor.
2. ear acupuncture (the emergency point)
The ear is a map of your body. I use specific points there that have an immediate calming effect on the anxiety center in the brain. I often use small, painless permanent needles or seeds that you can stimulate yourself during the flight - your personal "anchor" on board.
3. mycotherapy (natural support)
For me, medicinal mushrooms like reishi act like a natural protective shield for the nerves. They help you to stay calm in stressful situations without making you tired.
Areas of application: What does the treatment help with?
My offer is aimed at anyone who feels uncomfortable in the air:
- Acute panic attacks: When fear prevents you from flying.
- Anticipatory anxiety: the sinking feeling weeks before departure.
- Physical symptoms: Palpitations, dizziness, nausea or insomnia before traveling.
- Aviation professionals: Pilots or cabin crew can also develop insecurities after stressful events - here I work discreetly and professionally on regeneration.
Who is fear of flying therapy suitable for?
Whether you fly on vacation once a year or are constantly in the cockpit or cabin for work, this gentle regulation is suitable for everyone. As I work without medication, there are no side effects that could affect your fitness to fly or your concentration.
Safety & medical classification
Fear of flying is often complex. My treatment at Fly-TCM is an excellent complement to classic strategies such as mental training or behavioral therapy. Important: In the case of severe traumatic experiences, a psychological assessment is advisable. I offer body-centred support that stabilizes your nervous system so that mental techniques can take effect in the first place.

Do I have to think about my anxiety during the treatment?
No. That’s the beauty of TCM. I work directly with your nervous system. While you rest relaxed on the couch, I regulate your stress hormones (such as cortisol and adrenaline) downwards. Your body learns to relax without you having to cognitively “chew through” the anxiety.
Is one session directly before the flight enough?
One session is better than none, but for a lasting change in your “fear memory” I recommend 3 to 5 appointments in advance. This way, I build a stable foundation that your body can automatically access at the moment of boarding.
What do I do if the fear comes on the plane anyway?
I use ear acupuncture for this. I often stick tiny, invisible magnetic beads or permanent needles on specific calming points. If you notice that anxiety is rising, you can gently press these points – this immediately sends a relaxation signal to your brain.
Does health insurance pay for fear of flying?
Yes, if you have supplementary insurance for complementary medicine. The treatment is billed as a TCM treatment (tariff 590), as I treat the underlying imbalance in your system.
Can I combine the treatment with medication?
TCM works well with most approaches. However, my aim is to make you so stable that you no longer need chemical sedatives in the long term to be able to fly without anxiety.
