Your food is your daily fuel
Hand on heart: how do you feel after eating? Full of energy and full? Or rather tired, bloated and heavy? Especially in the hectic everyday life in Winterthur and Zurich - between meetings, flights and quick snacks at the train station - the "middle" is often neglected.
TCM nutrition counseling at Fly-TCM is not a diet. I don't count calories and rarely make blanket bans. Instead, I look at: What does your metabolic type need right now? Are you too cold? Do you have too much moisture (weight/heaviness)? I'll show you how to turn your food back into real medicine.
What is TCM nutrition (5 elements)?
Chinese dietetics is based on the thermal effect of food. Each food has a temperature (warming, cooling, neutral) and a flavor that affects certain organs.
The aim is simple: I want to optimize your "digestive fire" (stomach/spleen Qi) so that you gain maximum energy from your food and no "waste products" (moisture/mucus) remain in your body. A warm, cooked breakfast is often half the way to success.
No time to cook? No problem.
I know that my patients - especially crew and business travelers - can't cook for three hours a day. My advice is radically suitable for everyday life. I look for "hacks" for your life:
- Which airplane/restaurant food is the least harmful to you?
- How can you keep your energy up with thermos flasks or Meal-Prep?
- Which spices (e.g. cardamom, ginger) immediately make your food more digestible?
Areas of application: When does a change in diet help?
You are what you eat. Many chronic complaints can be controlled by what you eat. In Winterthur I often give advice on:
1. indigestion & irritable bowel syndrome
Bloating (meteorism), a feeling of fullness after eating, soft stools or constipation. These are often signs of a "weak center". Cooked food provides immediate relief.
2. tiredness & lack of energy
Do you fall into the famous "soup coma" after lunch? This means that your body uses more energy for digestion than it gains. Let me turn this around.
3. weight management & metabolism
In TCM, obesity is often an accumulation of "dampness" and "phlegm" because the metabolism is too sluggish (too cold). Diets with salad and raw food often make this worse! I heat up the oven so that the fat can melt.
4. immune system & susceptibility to infections
If you constantly have a cold, you often have too much "wind/cold" in your system. Strengthening soups and warming power foods rebuild the Wei-Qi protective shield.
Who is this advice for?
For anyone who wants to understand why salad in the evening might not be a good idea. It is particularly valuable for:
- Shift workers: Those who have to eat at night and whose biological rhythm is upset.
- Families: To accustom children to a strengthening foundation from an early age.
- Allergy sufferers: To alleviate intolerances by strengthening the intestines.
- Pre-pregnancy preparation: What food does your body and your baby need to enable optimal growth and development for both of you?
Boundaries & demarcation
I provide preventative and therapeutic advice for functional disorders. In the case of severe eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia) or acute organic illnesses, I only work in a supportive capacity and always in cooperation with doctors and psychotherapists.

Do I have to eat porridge every morning now?
No, but a warm breakfast is actually the game changer in TCM. It doesn’t have to be porridge – it can also be scrambled eggs, soup or warm compote. Once you feel how much more energy you have throughout the day when your stomach has already been warmed in the morning, you will do it voluntarily!
Can I still drink coffee?
TCM is undogmatic. Coffee is thermally warm, but drying. If you are already “hot” and stressed, too much coffee is not good. If you are rather sluggish and dehydrated, it can be okay in moderation. I’ll find the right balance for you. I rarely ban anything completely, I look for the balance.
Does it help you lose weight? I've tried everything.
Yes, very often. Many diets (low carb, raw food, juices) cool the body down extremely. The metabolism falls asleep, the body stores water (“moisture”) to protect itself. I use TCM nutrition to revive the metabolism. You eat your fill (with warm, high-quality meals) and still lose weight, because the “combustion” starts up again.
I am a vegan/vegetarian. Is that possible with TCM?
Absolutely. Classical TCM uses meat broths as medicine (e.g. after childbirth), but you can apply the principles wonderfully using plants. I just have to make sure that we get enough “substance” and warmth into your body through legumes, nuts and spices, as plant-based food often has a cooling effect.
Is this recognized by the health insurance?
The item “TCM nutritional advice” (dietetics) is part of tariff 590. If you have supplementary insurance for complementary medicine, this is usually covered. However, it is not a classic “nutritional consultation” according to KVG (basic insurance).
